Our Materials

At SGS Tools and Parts, material choice is an important part of how we design and build durable, practical products. We select materials based on how the part will be used, the loads it may experience, the workshop environment it will operate in, and the level of strength, heat resistance, UV resistance, stiffness, chemical resistance, and durability required.

PA6-20 and PPS-CF

For many of our tool skins and parts used in outdoor, workshop, vehicle, or chemical-exposure environments, we mainly use PA6-20 and PPS-CF. These materials are selected for applications where toughness, heat resistance, UV resistance, chemical resistance, and long-term durability are important.

PA6-20 is a nylon-based engineering material suited to functional parts that may experience movement, vibration, repeated handling, impact, or mechanical stress. It provides strong practical durability while remaining suitable for real-world tool and workshop use. Where appropriate, we select PA6 materials with UV-stabilised properties to improve resistance to sunlight and environmental exposure.

PPS-CF is a carbon-fibre reinforced high-performance material suited to more demanding applications. It is used where parts may require greater heat resistance, chemical resistance, stiffness, strength, UV resistance, and long-term stability. PPS-CF is well suited to technical parts, outdoor applications, and chemical-area use where standard materials may not be appropriate.

PLA-CF for selected parts

For some selected parts, we may also use PLA-CF, a carbon-fibre reinforced PLA material. PLA-CF can provide a strong, rigid, and clean-looking finish, making it suitable for certain holders, covers, brackets, display parts, prototypes, or lower-exposure workshop accessories. It is used only where it is suitable for the application, not as our main material for tougher tool skin or outdoor chemical-area parts.

Responsible sourcing

We also aim to source parts and materials responsibly. Where possible, we choose suppliers and components that support reliable quality, ethical sourcing, and practical long-term use. This includes selecting materials that are fit for purpose, avoiding unnecessary waste, and choosing parts that help extend the life of tools and equipment rather than encouraging early replacement.

Right material, right job

Our goal is to use the right material for the right job. By matching each product to an appropriate material, we can create parts that are practical, durable, and suitable for real workshop use.
